The US blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.60% in May, closing at 10457.80. Stock market indices in Europe, Asia and Globally were up in May.
According to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.:
• The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.60% in May, closing at 10457.80. Year-to-date, the index is down 3.01%. (Index calculated in US dollars).
• Measuring Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 50 index is up 3.34% for May, closing at 2911.39. Year-to-date, the index is up 4.90%. (Index calculated in Euros)
• Measuring Eastern Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged Total Market index is up 0.41% for May, closing at 178.45. Year-to-date, the index is up 4.11%. (Index calculated in Euros)
The performance of the Dow Jones STOXX EU Enlarged 15 blue-chip index is up 0.20% for May, closing at 1909.62. Year-to-date, the index is up 3.88%. (Index calculated in Euros)
• The Dow Jones Asian Titans 50 index rose 0.02% in May to 114.05. So far this year, the index is down 5.16%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
• The Dow Jones Global Titans 50 worldwide blue-chip market index rose 1.72% in May, closing at 193.31. Year-to-date, the index is down 0.87%. (Index calculated in US dollars)
MAY 2005 Sector Winners and Losers
• In the U.S., the Dow Jones Technology sector index was the biggest winner in May, posting a 8.28% gain. The Dow Jones Basic Materials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 1.20%.
• In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Technology sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 8.98%. The Dow Jones STOXX 600 Media sector index posted the lowest gain of 1.45%.
• In Asia/Pacific, the Dow Jones Technology sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 1.94%. The Dow Jones Basic Materials sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 3.84%.
• Globally, the Dow Jones Technology sector index posted the biggest gain, climbing 7.54% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Index. The Dow Jones Basic Resources sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 2.75%.

• Measuring global commodities futures market, the Dow Jones-AIG Commodity index is down 1.57% for May, closing at 149.89. Year-to-date, the index is up 2.94%. (Index calculated in US dollars).
