Glyn Jones, ex-CEO of Gartmore, has joined Thames River Capital LLP as its Chief Executive Officer with effect from 12 October 2005.

Jones was formerly Chief Executive Officer of Gartmore Investment Management where he oversaw the transformation of Gartmore away from its origins as a traditional UK institutional balanced fund manager by re-focusing the business on specialist high alpha, single manager and other alternative products. Prior to that he was Chief Executive of Coutts Group where, amongst other achievements, he pioneered the development of funds of hedge funds and manager of manager investment solutions.

Thames River’s founding executives Charlie Porter and Jonathan Hughes-Morgan instigated Jones’ appointment with the objective of strengthening the company’s management team. Hughes-Morgan, who remains Managing Director, and Porter, who becomes President, will continue to play leading roles in the affairs of the business.

One of Jones’ first roles at Thames River will be to review the growth options for the business to enable it to continue its development as one of the UK’s most successful and fastest growing specialist asset managers. Since its foundation in 1998 the company has grown to manage funds in excess of USD 7.2bn across seven separate capabilities including: specialist hedge funds; property funds; long only funds and hedge funds of funds.

Charlie Porter said: “I am delighted that in Glyn we have secured one of the most respected and experienced business leaders in the asset management industry.  I have known him well for many years and during this time we have experienced a real meeting of minds in terms of shared values and operating philosophies with regard to how our industry will develop into the future. Glyn will be a tremendous asset to Thames River and I am delighted to welcome him here.”

Glyn Jones added: “I am very excited about the future of Thames River; it is an outstanding place to work. The business provides an environment and a partnership culture, which has attracted highly talented investment professionals and then let them focus on generating excellent investment performance for their clients. I look forward to working with Charlie and Jonathan to build further on the success that has been achieved.”
