Betsy Gile joins BlueMountain Capital Management as strategic advisor
Betsy Gile, currently a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Bank Trust Corporation and Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, and a former managing director at Deutsche Bank, has joined BlueMountain Capital Management as a managing director and senior strategic advisor.
Gile, who retired from Deutsche two years ago, will draw on more than 25 years of experience in the credit and loan markets to help drive BlueMountain's client and investor relations, internal professional development and talent acquisition efforts.
'I've known Betsy for more than a decade and have the utmost respect for her professionally and personally,' said Andrew Feldstein, BlueMountain's chief executive and chief investment officer. 'Her talents will make us an even stronger asset management firm, broadening our reach in the industry and helping us continue to grow both on the asset and talent side. As we enter new markets and expand our product offerings, Betsy's relationships will be crucial to our ability to scale up as needed.'
Adds BlueMountain president Stephen Siderow: 'We've made being a professional and institutional organisation a top priority, and Betsy will help us continue to build an enduring franchise. Her deep experience in credit research, credit portfolio management and business management, as well as her broad industry relationships, will provide great value to the firm as a whole and its leadership group in particular.'
Before her retirement, Gile spent two years at Deutsche Bank as a managing director and global head of the loan exposure management group, where she built a team to manage the bank's USD80bn commercial loan portfolio by using capital market instruments and derivatives to reduce the volatility of financial results.
Previously Gile spent 24 years at JP Morgan, where she was active in the North American credit origination and risk management business, responsible for areas such as high-grade credit markets trading, credit portfolio management, corporate lending and credit research. While there, Gile worked directly with BlueMountain co-founders Andrew Feldstein and Gery Sampere, the firm's head of credit research Bill Ingrassia, and credit analyst Ian Gazard.
'BlueMountain is an asset manager that does things the right way, with a greater degree of transparency and structural integrity than many others in the alternative investing world,' Gile says. 'In my new role with BlueMountain, I'll be able to focus on the things I enjoy most - working with investors and clients, recruiting young, hungry talent, and helping to add to the firm's success as it grows.'
BlueMountain Capital Management invests both long and short in the global credit markets through credit default swaps and other related credit and equity derivatives, as well as cash instruments. The company's investment philosophy focuses on fundamental credit research, quantitative analysis, and technical market knowledge and experience.
BlueMountain currently has nearly USD4bn in assets under management in its hedge funds and also is the manager of three collateralised loan obligations with an additional USD1.4bn in assets. The firm, which was founded in 2003 by Feldstein, Siderow and portfolio manager Sampere, has offices in New York and London.
