SEQA Capital Advisors, a New York-based investment management firm, has announced the appointment of Wolf Kohn as head of research for high-speed trading. The firm has also hired applied mathematician Yanfang Shen, who has worked with Kohn for several years.

In this new role, Kohn will work closely with SEQA Capital Advisors' founder and portfolio manager, Andrew F. Van Hise, to develop trading strategies that utilise high-speed forecasting technology he has developed. Kohn and SEQA have maintained an informal collaboration over the past three years.

'We are very pleased to welcome Wolf to the SEQA team,' Van Hise says. 'His research experience and expertise are critically applicable to high-speed quantitative trading strategies across a broad array of asset classes.'

Kohn previously founded Clearsight Systems, a business set up to explore products based on the hybrid systems technology he co-created with Anil Nerode of Cornell University. While at Clearsight he began to apply his techniques to high-speed trading applications.

Kohn has a history of technical achievements with organisations including General Motors, Lockheed Corporation, NASA Johnson Space Center and Boeing Computer Services, is the author of more than 200 papers and four books, and holds 10 patents.
