Infiniti Capital has announced the appointment of Ian Shearer, previously the firm’s head of business development and a member of its executive committee, as chief executive.

Following two years with Infiniti’s fund management division in Hong Kong, he will move the group’s Zurich head office during 2008. The executive team at Infiniti remains unchanged, with Shearer having oversight of business development for the time being.

As a member of the UK diplomatic service, he was responsible for reconciliation and payment of airline and freight accounts, departmental budget monitoring and liaising with other government departments at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

Shearer joined the private sector in 1997 as director of a family-owned UK property development company. The following year he moved overseas as a financial services consultant advising on investment, tax and trust, insurance and corporate financing issues.

He spent a year in Limassol, Cyprus, and three and a half years in Tokyo, followed by three and a half years in Hong Kong as area manager for Greater China with a large privately-owned consultancy company, specialising in alternative investments and tax planning.

Infiniti Capital part of the Zurich-based Infiniti Group, which offers institutional investors funds of hedge funds, structured products and the creation of bespoke investment solutions. The firm has pioneered performance fee-only investment management to align the interests of the manager with those of investors by basing remuneration on the generation of net profits.
