Alternative investment manager Salus Alpha has announced the appointment of Günther Schneider, previously chief investment officer of Skandia Austria and a member of the board of Skandia Austria Holding, as head of European business development based in its Vienna office.

'Through his previous work experience Günther Schneider is an important addition to our team, particularly with regard to innovative product development and raising awareness in the European market,' says Salus Alpha managing director Oliver Prock. 'With his experience and contacts, his appointment will be key in the expansion of the group.'

Because of the increasing variety of funds and structured products offered by Salus Alpha, Prock will concentrate more on investment management and will take over the management of the subsidiary Salus Alpha Capital in the course of this year. As a result, the firm plans for Schneider to take over management of the Vienna office in the near future.

Salus Alpha, which employs 35 investment professionals, has managed capital for institutional clients and high net worth individuals since 2002 and the following year became the first asset manager to introduce hedge funds using a Ucits III structure.
