BNP Paribas has appointed Namuk Cho as a managing director and head of flow, hybrids and exotics trading for the Americas, reporting to Lionel Crassier, head of equities and derivatives trading and structuring for the Americas, and to Laurent Marquis globally.

Cho, who is based in New York, joins BNP Paribas from Diamond Lake Investment Group, the hedge fund management firm set up by former Merrill Lynch investment banking co-chief Dow Kim.

Previously he spent three years as head of US derivatives trading at UBS, where he was in charge of US franchise and proprietary derivatives trading. He began his career at O’Connor & Associates, where he spent 13 years and was involved in its acquisition by Swiss Bank Corporation, which later merged with UBS.

‘Namuk brings a wealth of experience in the US derivatives market,’ Crassier says. ‘His background and expertise will compliment our strategy of continued expansion and success in the Americas.’

BNP Paribas’s corporate and investment banking division has 15,000 employees in more than 50 countries worldwide. It is active in advisory and capital markets (corporate finance, equities, fixed income) as well as in financing businesses (energy, commodities, export and project finance and structured finance), and specialises in particular in derivatives, debt and equity capital markets and structured finance. The BNP Paribas group is present in more than 85 countries and has 163,000 employees, including more than 126,000 in Europe and 15,000 in North America.
