RWC Partners, which recently changed its name from MPC Investors, has announced the recruitment of Carmel Peters and Kirsty McLaren from Sofaer Capital to launch a new Asia-focused long/short hedge fund in the third quarter of this year.

Peters, previously the lead portfolio manager responsible for the Sofaer Capital Asia Hedge Fund, has been investing in Asian equities for 25 years. She was earlier a director in charge of Asian equities and emerging markets for Putnam Investments and chief investment officer for Rothschild Asset Management in Hong Kong.

McLaren was the joint portfolio manager for the Sofaer Capital Asia Hedge Fund and has more than 13 years of experience in Asian and emerging market equities. She initially worked with Peters at Rothschild Asset Management before moving to the Asian desks at JPMorgan Securities.

“We are delighted to welcome Carmel and Kirsty on board as they have extensive experience and a strong track record in Asia,” says RWC Partners chief executive Peter Harrison. “It is particularly exciting for us as it adds a new region to our product range which is important as the business continues to expand.

“Sitting alongside Ajay Gambhir, Miles Geldard and John Innes, all our teams are highly experienced and have joined RWC Partners to manage portfolios in what they consider to be the optimum environment. Ajay’s and Miles’s teams have raised more than USD1bn each in the past 18 months and we are optimistic that this success can be replicated with Carmel and Kirsty.”
