C.P. Eaton Partners adds chief operating and financial officer

Rowayton, Connecticut-based placement agent C.P. Eaton Partners has appointed Jerry Elliott as chief operating, financial and legal officer and added four more professionals to its team to meet the needs of its growing client base.

Elliott assumes the combined duties of chief operating officer, chief financial officer and chief legal officer and will co-ordinate the firm’s four offices and associated activities to ensure that the firm operates with maximum efficiency and manage its increasing number of fund assignments

He will assume some of the responsibilities that were previously handled by Charles P. Eaton, who will remain chief executive, and Charles Bartz, who will continue to head the firm’s new business and due diligence activities.

“The firm will benefit from Jerry’s extensive legal and management experience,” Eaton says. “His strategic vision will be invaluable as our platform experiences continued growth, and his investment banking and private equity relationships will help us generate additional new business prospects.”

Says Elliott: “C.P. Eaton has a clearly differentiated strategy that strongly positions the firm for continued growth in raising capital for the highest quality fund managers. In a difficult market environment, it will separate its clients from the field and help them achieve great success.”

Elliott has more than 25 years of strategic, operating, financial and legal experience in senior roles at operating companies, banking and legal institutions. He was previously was chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Cengage Learning (formerly Thomson Learning).

Earlier he was chief executive and president of Global Signal until its sale to Crown Castle for USD5.7bn. He also has experience as a senior banker at Morgan Stanley and was a partner at international law firm Shearman & Sterling.

“Jerry’s presence on our team will assist with our management transition and assure that the firm will continue to excel and provide the same high levels of service our clients have enjoyed in the past,” Eaton says.

Peter Martenson is joining the firm as a senior vice-president in the La Jolla, California office. He was previously a managing director with Macquarie Funds Management, where he led a team of investment professionals structuring, fundraising and investing in global private equity opportunities for funds of funds and separate accounts

Nina Frandson, who becomes a vice-president in the Rowayton office, was previously a developer for American International Group, where she developed and helped fund large mixed-use urban development projects in the US and internationally. Earlier she was an associate director in Cushman & Wakefield’s capital markets group.

Dan Meade jr has joined C.P. Eaton as a vice-president in Rowayton after having been a vice-president in the marketing department at Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn, a multistrategy value equity manager. He began his career on the institutional equity sales desk at Bear Stearns, where he was an associate director, and held a similar position at research boutique Monness Crespi Hardt.

Brian Newman joins the firm in Rowayton as an associate after having worked in private finance for investment banks Goldsmith Agio Helms and CRT Capital. Previously, he made private equity investments in power and energy assets for ArcLight Capital Partners.
