Private investment firm SW1 Capital has taken a stake in PCE Investors, an alternative investment manager with more than USD1.5bn in assets, with the aim of increasing its holding to a controlling interest.

The transaction involves the purchase of existing and newly-issued shares involving a capital injection to facilitate the development of its business.

SW1 says it plans to develop PCE’s infrastructure platform for hedge funds and will help the firm in its aim to attract established funds into the PCE structure by offering benefits in areas including cost, infrastructure and distribution.

‘This represents an unprecedented opportunity for PCE to grow its alternative investment management business, enabling our current managers to develop in these very challenging times and to take advantage of a platform offering inherent economies of scale to established managers,’ says PCE president George Cadbury.

‘SW1 Capital’s in-depth experience and long tenure within the hedge fund sector means that they compliment our business model and are ideally placed to accelerate our business and implement growth plans for our managers.’

SW1 Capital managing partner Simon Luhr adds: ‘We view PCE as the future of the hedge fund industry. At a time when focus is on compliance, risk management and proper due diligence, the ‘best in class’ infrastructure provided by PCE enables small to medium funds to
compete for investment with their larger peers, levelling the playing field and lowering barriers to entry.’

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in London, PCE Investors’ platform currently comprises 16 funds with total assets under management of more than USD1.5bn.

SW1 Capital was established last year by hedge fund veterans Terry Duffy, founder of Lionhart, one of the longest serving hedge fund managers in the UK, and Luhr, a founding partner and former chief executive of Marble Bar Asset Management. The firm is a private investment manager with offices in London, Toronto, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
