Singapore-based alternative asset manager Artradis Fund Management has announced the appointment of James Sweeney as a managing director and chief operating officer.

Sweeney has been involved with global capital markets for more than 17 years and joins from Credit Suisse, where he was a managing director running the fund-linked products group in New York.

He began his career as a lawyer at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett in New York and has held a variety of positions at Société Générale, Bank of America, UBS and Lehman Brothers in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

‘With his strong background in managing large and operationally intensive businesses, Jim is an important addition to our team,’ says managing partner Richard Magides. ‘He will lead the continued build-out of our operational and trading units that will complement and enhance the existing platform at Artradis.’

Sweeney add: "Artradis’ thriving business and committed investor base were primary drivers in my decision to join the firm. I am excited to leverage my expertise and experience to benefit our investors.’

Artradis Fund Management is a pan-Asian focused alternative asset manager with offices in Singapore, Geneva and Moscow. The Artradis Barracuda and AB2 funds have combined assets under management of some USD3.5bn and returned 27 per cent and 35 per cent respectively in 2008 following 35 per cent and 57 per cent in 2007.
