Global macro/volatility hedge fund specialist 36 South Capital Holdings Ltd (36South) has opened an office in London. Headed by co-founder and director, Jerry Haworth, this new office at 11 Haymarket, SW1, will give UK and European institutional and individual investors better access to 36 South’s range of funds.

Founded in 2001, 36 South is believed to be one of a handful of fund managers actively pursuing a global macro/volatility strategy. Investment decisions are taken based upon the firm’s proprietary Quadrivium process, and make use of bespoke indices – the Global Implied Volatility Indices.

36 South has in excess of USD30m in assets under management and the firm’s flagship fund – the Kohinoor Series Two Fund – delivered a return of 73% in 2008. According to Haworth, Kohinoor’s strategy, which has been running for seven years, and is currently delivering annualised returns in excess of 20% per annum, is tailor made for extreme events.

“The fund is categorised as low/medium risk and has target returns of 15 -25%,” he says. “It has a diversified strategy, which is designed to perform well in all market environments.

“We are delighted to be opening an office in London,’ he adds. ‘Having a London base will allow us to strengthen our relationship with existing UK and European investors, both individual and institutional. We also look forward to introducing new investors to our range of funds.

Joining Jerry Haworth in London will be Richard Hollington, 36 South’s co-founder and MD, and Michael Tasker, Operations Manager. Alongside Kohinoor, 36 South has two other funds open for subscription – Dresden Green and Regent – single theme funds targeting gold and the Japanese yen respectively.
