A group of investment professionals has launched Bienville Capital Management, a New York City-based investment firm providing investment solutions to high net worth and institutional investors.

The firm was founded in 2008 by Cullen Thompson, Billy Stimpson and Ralph Reynolds. Combined, the team has managed more than USD10bn in assets, thousands of employees across the globe, and has more than 100 years of collective experience.

"Bienville offers an investment philosophy, process and global perspective that we believe is more consistent with the challenging world we live in today," says Thompson, the firm’s managing partner. "I am thrilled with the team we have assembled and the performance-driven culture we have established."

Thompson most recently served as director of investments for a NYC-based private wealth management firm after previous roles at Citigroup Private Bank, Lehman Brothers and Arthur Andersen.

Stimpson specialized in equity derivatives as a vice president at Deutsche Bank, an executive director at JPMorgan and most recently as a managing director at Bay Crest Partners.

Reynolds founded and served as chief investment officer of Carlyle Blue Wave, and as a managing director at Deutsche Bank overseeing one of the world’s largest proprietary hedge funds.

The firm has added more experience to its team since launch. Champ Meyercord will serve as senior adviser to the firm and has more than 40 years of experience in asset management and private equity. In June 2009, Don Stoltz and Shruti Bansal joined the firm as directors. Stoltz, previously vice president of equity derivative trading at JPMorgan, will manage trading and assist with the strategic overlay. Bansal has extensive experience in manager and hedge fund due diligence.

Bienville’s investment process is focused on asset allocation, manager selection and portfolio construction, including a strategic overlay.

"The overlay is an important differentiator of the firm and a significant value-add for our clients, particularly given the level of systemic risk currently present in financial markets," says Stimpson. "Bienville has invested in the trading talent to deliver a solution that is extremely rare in the investment advisory industry."
