Sydney-based St Helens Capital, which has run Australian long/short equity hedge fund strategy programmes since January 2002, has rebranded as Lanterne Strategic Investors.

The name change is one of a series of recent steps taken to strengthen the business. These include the addition of former Citigroup proprietary trader Adrian Tucker as a portfolio manager, and the appointment of Lindsay Jones, formerly partner at ORN Capital in London and most recently with Frontera Investment Partners in Sydney, as an Asian portfolio manager.

Lanterne has also engaged Triple A Partners to market its fund management capabilities to investors outside of Australia.

Lanterne has delivered annualised net returns of 12.9 per cent since inception in January 2002, with positive returns in 75 per cent of months since launch, and annualised volatility of 6.7 per cent. Year-to-date performance is +23.8 per cent, and for the 12 months through July 2009 +23.9 per cent.

Co-founder and chief investment officer Michael Brookes (pictured) says: "Having delivered strong and consistent performance during the challenging markets of the last 12 months as well as reinforcing our capabilities, we decided to adopt a new name that embodies our energetic, forward-looking approach. Furthermore, the appointment of Triple A Partners to represent us outside of Australia is evidence of our determination to grow our business in the coming years. We are excited by the prospects ahead and will continue to seek opportunities to strengthen our firm in order to maximise the risk-adjusted returns we deliver for our investors."
