Biotech ‘could help UK overcome recession’

The UK’s biotech sector could help the country avoid a double-dip recession, an expert has suggested.

The UK’s biotech sector could help the country avoid a double-dip recession, an expert has suggested.

Michael Baxter, co-author of Bubbles and Wisdom, claimed that this contradicts the common belief that Britain no longer has a manufacturing industry.

“When it comes to biotech, we are a significant player – including the manufacturing – in that sector,” he said.

He added that the country is making a number of interesting developments that could contribute to the advancement of the field.

“The UK could possibly hone in on that and could actually do very well as a result of that,” he stated.

Mr Baxter highlighted the fact that Britain frequently underrates this area and suggested that it has more opportunities than many investors have identified.

Earlier this month, the BioIndustry Association welcomed the government report of the overview of the UK Bioscience and Health Technology database, which will collate industry statistics in order to inform policy.
