Hedge fund net outflows reach USD160bn in 2009

Net money outflows from hedge funds amounted to USD160.11bn in 2009, according to a report by Lipper Tass.

This amount accounts for about 46 per cent of the sum of all negative quarterly money flows to the industry since first quarter 1994.

Money flows to the global the hedge fund industry rebounded in Q4 2009, with assets increasing 3.90 per cent quarter on quarter and 0.51 per cent year on year.

Net inflows of the hedge fund industry for fourth quarter 2009 rose 222 per cent from the outflows of third quarter to USD7.50bn.

Driven by both positive market performance and net inflows, global hedge fund assets are estimated to have increased 3.72 per cent quarter on quarter – from USD1.29trn at the end of September 2009 to USD1.34trn at the end of December 2009.
