Conifer Group appoints head of fund administration

The Conifer Group has appointed Douglas Lang as head of fund administration and managing director.

Lang will manage an 18 person team that provides middle and back office services to more than 100 hedge fund clients.

Lang previously worked for more than a decade at Butterfield Fulcrum Group, most recently as a managing director.

“Adding a top-notch veteran like Doug to our executive team is something that is going to bring an immediate benefit to our client base,” says Jack McDonald, chief executive officer and president of Conifer. “We are going to count on his experience and expertise to help us to continue to grow Conifer and provide leadership to our fund administration team, which is focused on combining specialised back office accounting as well as outstanding customer service.”

Lang joined Butterfield Bank in 1998 as a fund accounting officer and by 2004 he had risen to become the head of fund administration for Butterfield Fund Services. At Butterfield Fulcrum Group, Lang led the 100 person fund administration department, which serviced a client base of more than 400 hedge and mutual funds.

“As an independent hedge fund administrator that can be flexible and focus on the sort of customer service that is difficult to achieve at a larger company, we are in a unique position to capitalise,” says Lang. “For example, one great opportunity for Conifer is the growing need for hedge funds to designate a service provider to run a redundant back office, which is especially appealing to funds looking to attract institutional investors.”

Conifer Group is a provider of services to the hedge fund industry, including global fund accounting and administration, middle office, execution services, executive office space, compliance, corporate accounting, consulting services and business infrastructure.
