Courage Capital hires two investment professionals

Courage Capital Management is expanding its team of investment professionals with a focus on short and long/short equity strategies.

Courage Capital has hired Brad Weeks and James Hughes, both of whom formerly worked at Ergates Capital Management, where Weeks co-founded the firm and launched the Ergon Capital Fund in 2004.

Weeks comes to Courage with a strong background in financial analysis and hedge fund portfolio management. Prior to co-founding Ergates, Weeks was an investment analyst with Glenhill Capital Management. Weeks began his investment career with hedge fund firm Water Street Capital in early 2000.

Hughes also joins Courage from Ergates, where he worked with Weeks as a consulting analyst. Prior to his time with Ergates, Hughes was president and chief executive officer of H&J Media Group. Hughes was also co-founder and portfolio manager for V4 Partners /Patriot Capital, and a trader and analyst for Water Street Capital.

“We are always seeking high calibre talent,” says Courage founder and chief investment officer Richard C. Patton. “While Brad and Jamie bring skills on both the long and short side, their proven ability to contribute on the short side was particularly compelling.”

Weeks and Hughes are managing a strategy that is designed to provide exposure to broad market declines via a portfolio of short investments in individual equities. They will also be managing a strategy to capitalise on opportunities in long/short equities.
