Big changes are afoot at UBS, one of the prime brokers recently selected by Morgan Sze’s Azentus Capital – the eagerly anticipated USD1billion Hong Kong start-up that commenced trading last month. Having reported in last week’s newsletter that David Gray (pictured), head of UBS prime services Asia Pacific, had left the firm, Reuters this week confirmed that Ashley Jarvis had also decided to quit. Jarvis was UBS’s global head of business and capital consultancy in its prime services division. Like Gray, he was based in Hong Kong. It’s not immediately clear why he decided to leave, but Gray’s departure could potentially be one of the reasons. Quick to pounce on the market opportunity, Morgan Stanley has already snaffled up Jarvis. Reuters wrote that the US investment bank giant had hired Jarvis as global co-head of consulting, a role he shares with Jim Flanagan. Whilst Flanagan is based in New York, it is believed that in his new role Jarvis will initially remain in Hong Kong but will eventually relocate to London. Ex-Nomura Holding Inc global head of prime services, Tim Wannenmacher, has replaced Gray as UBS head of prime services Asia Pacific, but Gray’s future plans are as yet unknown.
