Pictet AM hires Asia total return expert

Pictet Asset Management, the institutional asset management arm of Geneva-headquartered Pictet & Cie – one of Switzerland’s largest private banks with approximately EUR294billion in assets under management and custody – has hired Anthony Cheung as Senior Investment Manager. Cheung joins the firm’s Asia total return team and will co-manage Pictet’s Asia equity l/s funds, reporting directly to Head of Asia equity long/short, Nidhi Mahurkar. Pictet currently has one Asian total return fund, PTR Mandarin: a UCITS III-compliant version of the firm’s China-focused equity l/s hedge fund managed by Lan Wang Simond. It is believed that a second alternative UCITS Asia fund will be launched in the second half of this year to be managed by Cheung. Cheung joins the firm from Gartmore Investment Management where he worked as an investment manager in the global emerging markets team. He specialized in China opportunities. “Anthony’s appointment represents a significant reinforcement of our Asia long/short capabilities,” said Philippe de Weck, Head of Equities Total Return.
