The Conifer Group, LLC (Conifer), a provider of fund administration, middle office, trading and prime brokerage services to the hedge fund industry, has named Peter O’Connell (pictured) as its Chief Financial Officer. Prior to accepting this position, O’Connell was the President and founder of Conifer Fund Services offshore fund administration business.
In addition, Conifer has also named Douglas Lang as President of Conifer Fund Services and David Bateman as Director and Head of Conifer Fund Services, BVI.
This executive reorganisation comes as Conifer embarks on a period of expansion designed to further meet the evolving needs of the hedge fund industry.

Prior to his appointment, O’Connell led all of Conifer’s Fund Services business after establishing the Group’s offshore Tortola, BVI office in 2006. A qualified chartered accountant, O’Connell possesses a strong background in corporate finance, having served as a Financial Controller and Finance Director at various other companies. He will be based out of Conifer’s headquarters in San Francisco.
Lang joined Conifer in 2010 as Head of US Fund Administration where he oversaw middle and back office servicing for more than 100 hedge fund clients. Prior to joining Conifer, Lang spent more than 10 years with Butterfield Fulcrum Group, where he served as a Managing Director as well as a Head of Fund Administration for its Fund Services business.
Bateman joined Conifer’s BVI office in 2008 from UBS Fund Services, where he spent three years as a Fund Administration Manager for its Irish operations. With over a decade of experience in the offshore financial services industry, Bateman previously held roles at Bank of America and Deloitte & Touche’s Cayman operations.
