Proskauer has expanded its global Private Investment Funds Group and London office with the addition of Nigel van Zyl, Kate Simpson and Oliver Rochman as Partners.

Van Zyl and Rochman will join the firm from SJ Berwin, and Simpson will join from Kirkland & Ellis. They bring deep experience in the full range of matters related to the establishment and operation of private investment funds, and related investments and transactions.

“Nigel, Kate and Oliver are a tremendous complement to our private investment fund capabilities in London and around the world,” says David W Tegeler, global co-head of Proskauer’s Private Investment Funds Group. “They bring a proven track record of success representing many of the most prominent private equity firms and investors in Europe, Asia and emerging markets, and that experience will be extremely valuable to our clients as we enter into a period of increased fundraising activity and a growing secondaries market, with regulatory changes looming on the horizon.”

Van Zyl, Simpson and Rochman advise fund managers on the structuring of private equity investment funds, infrastructure funds, deal specific co-investment vehicles, carried interest arrangements and co-investment plans, and a broad range of transactions related to the restructuring of investment funds, structuring of special purpose vehicles for investment into private equity, and the structuring of fund managers. They also represent institutional and other investors in their investments into private equity funds, and buyers and sponsors in all forms of secondary transactions.

“Growth in London has been a critical component of the firm’s strategy to provide the most comprehensive platform of services to our clients,” says Mary Kuusisto, head of Proskauer’s London office, and a member of the firm’s Private Investment Funds Group and Tax Department. “The addition of Nigel, Kate and Oliver is a significant step in furthering that strategy. We look forward to welcoming them here and taking advantage of their skills and experience as we continue to grow our corporate capabilities and enhance our services in Europe and around the world.”
