Veteran investment manager and senior executive Howard Freedland joins F500 Advisory Services

Howard Freedland has joined F500 Advisory Services as Chief Investment Officer and Head of Alternative Investments.

Freedland, who started one of the nation’s first 50 hedge funds and negotiated the USD280 million joint venture between GE Capital and ResCom in 1993, will work with F500 Advisory 500’s investment professionals to create and oversee its investment policy, including evaluating hedge funds and other alternative investments. F500 Advisory Services manages more than USD250 million with some USD38 million currently invested in hedge funds and other alternative investments. F500 Advisory is an affiliate of Finance 500 Inc, an Orange County, Calif.-based broker-dealer.

Freedland served as Chief Financial Officer of GE Capital-ResCom and later as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of National Water & Power – a billing service provider for the multifamily housing industry. Freedland has started several companies, including institutional brokerage firm London Freedland Inc, Lido Capital and Global Life Underwriting.

He began his financial investment career as an analyst and subsequently as a portfolio manager for The St. Paul Company’s mutual fund subsidiary in 1973. Six years later, he founded H Freedland & Associates and launched September Investors Ltd., one of the nation’s first 50 hedge funds. He also started venture capital fund September Venture Associated Ltd.

Freedland earned his Bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Minnesota. He co-authored Net Terminal Value – A New Approach to Capital Budgeting Methodology with Professor C Robert Carlson while attending the university’s Graduate School of Management.

Freedland, a CFA Institute member since 1978 and a former board member of several public and private companies, is also a Series 7 registered broker with Finance 500 Inc., a licensed broker-dealer. Freedland adds his extensive background as an investment banker and senior corporate executive to the firm’s corporate finance capability.
