Private funds lawyer Udi Grofman has joined Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as a corporate partner in the New York office.

"Udi is one of the top lawyers in the alternative investment management field," says Paul, Weiss chair Brad S Karp. "We are thrilled to welcome a partner of his caliber and stature."

Grofman’s experience includes structuring a wide variety of alternative investment products, including hedge funds and private equity funds as well as structuring seed and strategic relationships. Grofman regularly advises investment management firms and their principals on risk management and regulatory compliance, as well as on operational and succession issues. He also advises on mergers, acquisitions and reorganisations of investment management firms and on restructuring proprietary trading desks into independent investment management firms.

"Udi has the experience, market knowledge and commercial savvy that will add to our depth and enhance our existing world class investment management practice," says Robert B Schumer, the chair of Paul, Weiss’s Corporate Department.

"The investment management industry remains poised for significant growth and change in the coming years. We believe that our existing practice in both the hedge fund and private equity spaces is a unique complement to Udi’s skills and experience, which will benefit our clients," says Marco Masotti, the deputy chair of Paul, Weiss’s Corporate Department and partner in the Investment Management Group.

Grofman received his LLB in 1996, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University and his LL.M. in 2000 from New York University School of Law.
