Alternative asset manager Northgate Capital has hired Mo Virani as chief financial officer and chief operating officer. Virani joins from venture capital firm Mohr Davidow.

Virani will be responsible for all the finance and administrative functions of Northgate. In addition he will provide close support for the investor relations and investment management activities of the firm.

“Mo brings deep experience in the financial arena as well as operations and is a great addition to our team,” says Brent Jones, a managing director for Northgate. “He has a deep network in the valley and across the globe. Having Mo at Northgate will allow us to continue to excel with both our fund-of-fund offerings and our direct investment platform.”

Prior to joining Northgate, Virani spent 12 years at Mohr Davidow, where he worked as the administrative general partner responsible for all company operations and limited partner relations. At Mohr Davidow, Virani actively supported the investment team and helped to design and implement the framework for investment decision making, developed serious modeling and analysis capabilities for helping with financing decisions and managed LP relations.

Previously, Virani was with Softbank Corp/Ziff Davis, where he was most recently CFO of ZD Events Inc., a division of Ziff Davis. He has also held senior finance positions with Sun Microsystems and Hewlett-Packard, working both within and outside of the United States.

Virani earned his MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He holds a BS degree (with honors) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester (UK).

“I’ve known the partners at Northgate for many years and have admired the firm they have built,” says Virani. “It’s great to be part of the team now. I look forward to helping them grow Northgate into an even stronger institution with increased domestic and international reach.”
