Emerging Markets UCITS were the big winners in October as some semblance of confidence returned to the markets, gaining 6.12 per cent according to the UCITS Alternative Index Emerging Markets. Overall, the UCITS Alternative Index Global gained 1.81 per cent but remains down 2.71 per cent for the year. Equity l/s (+2.36 per cent) and Event-Driven (+2.07 per cent) also did quite well although Market Neutral (+0.38 per cent) and Macro (+0.36 per cent) strategies struggled to generate any real momentum. Commodities gained 0.75 per cent and remains the only strategy, YTD, in positive territory: +0.85 per cent. CTA and FX were the only losing strategies last month, falling 2.52 per cent and 0.85 per cent respectively. The biggest laggard in 2011 remains Emerging Markets (-6.29 per cent) despite its strong performance last month.
