Gresham Partners hires Tim Joeng
Tim Joeng has joined independent wealth management firm Gresham Partners adding deep experience in the area of alternative and private equity investments.
As a Principal and senior member of the investment team, Joeng is responsible for sourcing investment opportunities, performing manager due diligence and building portfolios for Gresham’s clients. Joeng reports directly to President and Chief Investment Officer Ted Neild (pictured) and is a key member of Gresham’s investment committee.
“Very few wealth advisory firms have a real, deep commitment to investing in non-marketable strategies,” says Neild. “It’s complicated, and many of their clients don’t have the personal financial security to extend investment horizons. Gresham’s clients tend to be in that select range where they can extend investment horizons to take advantage of the better returns that are possible in these areas. For years, our firm has made a commitment to this area, producing very positive results for clients. Adding Tim to our investment team further enhances that commitment.”
Joeng was attracted to Gresham’s risk conscious investment approach, the strength of the team, and the challenges inherent in meeting the investment needs of a highly sophisticated client base. “Gresham’s clients require us to seek investment opportunities that are far broader than those typically provided to individual investors,” says Joeng. “The expectation here is to be much more thoughtful and opportunistic than other investment platforms in how we identify and analyze opportunities, particularly alternatives and private investments.”
Joeng brings to Gresham over 10 years of alternative investment and portfolio management experience in a broad range of investing environments, including family offices and an endowment. “Each environment presents unique challenges for an investment professional,” says Neild. “Tim has been very successful investing in a lot of different environments. We were attracted to his well-rounded experience and his unique, outside-the-box thinking when it comes to solving the investment puzzle.”
Prior to Gresham, Joeng was a portfolio manager and non-marketable securities officer at Williams College Investment Office where he was responsible for managing and investing the college’s private equity and real estate/real assets portfolios. From 2000 to 2007, Joeng sourced investments, performed due diligence and managed portfolio strategies for institutional single family offices, including Capital Guidance, a family office with investments in private equity, operating companies and real estate. Joeng started his finance career in 1997 as an analyst at JP Morgan & Co.
