Man Group has appointed Judy Saunders as a senior adviser on a consultancy basis to its UK institutional team.

Saunders takes on the role after seven years as chief investment officer at the West Midlands Pension Fund, where she was responsible for developing the GBP8.7bn fund’s investment strategy.

Paul Dackombe, head of UK institutional sales at Man, says: “Judy’s experience at the West Midlands Pension Fund will prove invaluable in tailoring and improving our ability to meet client needs in the UK. Her appointment as a senior advisor is testament to the strength of our commitment to the UK institutional market and in particular Local Government Pension Schemes, which represent a significant part of our institutional client strategy. We very much look forward to working with her.”

Saunders adds: “I feel my experience at WMPF will be particularly valuable to Man. Diversification has become an increasingly important element of a pension fund’s investment strategy and I believe this will increase given the recent behaviour of the markets and the lower returns environment. Going forward, alternative investment houses, like Man, will be playing a crucial part in this process and I am looking forward to working with Paul and his team.”
