Walkers appoints Mark Lewis to senior partner

Related Topics

Law firm Walkers has named investment funds and finance specialist Mark Lewis as senior partner.

He will continue to work closely with Walkers’ global investment funds group in addition to taking on the role of senior partner. He becomes just the third individual to hold the title in the course of the firm’s 50 year history.

Lewis (pictured) has more than three decades of post qualification experience in all aspects of corporate and investment funds work. He joined Walkers’ Cayman office as an associate in 1994 and was appointed partner in just over four years. In 1999, he became joint head of the firm’s global investment funds group.

Lewis’ acumen for strengthening client business led to him serving in various other leadership capacities during his 19 years at Walkers. He was responsible for overseeing marketing and business development as marketing partner before joining the firm’s management committee in 2008 as managing partner – clients, where he presided over the establishment and development of the firm’s Priority Client Programme.

“Walkers would not be the world-class firm that it is today had it not been for Mark’s invaluable accomplishments over the years,” says Ingrid Pierce, Walkers’ global managing partner. “Mark’s professionalism, business savvy and tireless leadership have helped the firm expand from just a few attorneys in 1994 to a global network encompassing hundreds of employees across multiple offices and practice areas. Mark is truly an innovator, and we are proud to recognise his contributions with this well-deserved distinction.”

“Walkers is an outstanding firm and I am pleased to have witnessed its rapid progression and growth over the past two decades to its current leading role in the offshore magic circle,” Lewis says. “It is extremely gratifying to have helped build Walkers into a firm capable of withstanding any market or competitor challenge and to see many colleagues recruited over the years themselves become senior leaders at the firm. I am honoured to lead Walkers and receive such a high distinction from an immensely talented group of friends and colleagues."

In addition to his role at Walkers, Lewis has devoted a large portion of his professional career to promoting the Cayman Islands as a premier financial services centre. He has contributed to the streamlining and development of the jurisdiction’s policies regarding investment funds by serving on a number of industry consulting groups established by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA). Lewis has also served as both chairman and deputy chairman of the Cayman Islands branch of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) and is a council member of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and a founding board director of Hedge Funds Care (Cayman Islands branch).
