Walkers expands HK presence
Mark Cummings has joined Walkers’ Hong Kong office, strengthening the firm’s position as a Pan-Asian provider of offshore legal services.
Cummings joins the office’s investment funds group as counsel. He previously worked at Appleby Global and has extensive experience in advising on the laws of the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands, with regard to structuring and establishing investment funds, both private equity and hedge funds.
Cummings has been practising offshore since 2007, having spent a couple of years based in the Cayman Islands before moving to Asia.
“We’re extremely pleased to welcome Mark as we celebrate our tenth anniversary in Hong Kong,” says Andy Randall, managing partner of the Hong Kong office. “Our continued success in Hong Kong is based on the deep expertise and substantial experience of our legal talent. Adding a top-calibre practitioner such as Mark enables us to retain our competitive advantage in the region."
“We’re seeing an increasing need from clients for in-depth and real-time legal advice on offshore issues,” says Denise Wong, a partner in the global corporate and investment funds groups of Walkers' Hong Kong. “Mark, with his particular expertise in hedge funds and private equity, will be a valuable asset, augmenting the offering from our current team and demonstrates Walkers' continued commitment to developing its leading Asian presence.”
Walkers' Hong Kong office, which celebrated its 10th anniversary on 12 September 2013, is one of the largest of the offshore law firms in the Asia-Pacific region and provides a full service offering of real-time British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands legal advice during Asian office hours, supported by a network of international offices.
The investment funds and corporate team provides advice on mutual and hedge funds, private equity funds and unit trusts, as well as mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, take-privates and public offerings of shares of offshore companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Taiwan Stock Exchange, London Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange.
On 1 March 2013, the readership of Hedgeweek voted Walkers “Best Offshore Law Firm” in its fourth Hedgeweek Global Awards. The honour was based on the results of the publication’s annual survey of nearly 60,000 subscribers, which sought to determine the “best in class” in a range of categories.
