Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has promoted eight attorneys to the partnership, effective 1 January 2014.
Rob Boller is in the firm’s litigation practice. He represents companies, partnerships and individuals in a variety of litigation and criminal/regulatory matters, with a particular focus on disputes arising out of complex financial transactions. He also counsels creditors and creditors’ committees in litigation arising out of bankruptcy.
Brian Carney is in the firm’s litigation practice in New York. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation matters in bankruptcy court, federal district court and New York state courts, especially matters involving private equity funds, hedge funds and their portfolio companies and creditors and creditors’ committees in bankruptcy-related litigation.
Lisa Carney is the firm’s cross-border practice in London. Lisa Carney represents clients in cross-border mergers and acquisitions; corporate finance matters, including Eurobond financing; and issues related to US securities law.
Ryan M Katz is in the firm’s tax practice in New York. Katz has been key to the development of the transactional team within the practice and represents clients in a variety of domestic and international corporate transactions, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity and hedge fund investments, venture capital transactions, debt financings, joint ventures and strategic alliances, and corporate restructurings. He also advises on corporate governance and general corporate matters and has become a leader in providing day-to-day corporate legal services for a variety of fund clients that are significant clients of the tax practice.
Meredith Lahaie is in the firm’s financial restructuring practice in New York. Lahaie has significant experience representing debtors, creditors and bondholders in large, complex chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings, having served as the day-to-day manager on a number of complex restructurings over the past three years. Lahaie has experience in a wide variety of industries, including pulp and paper, publishing, diversified financial services, homebuilding and construction, specialty chemicals, television broadcasting and energy.
Dan Paulos is in the firm’s tax practice in New York. He advises on a broad range of US and international tax matters, with a focus on the formation and operation of domestic and offshore private investment funds, and has developed a special expertise in international tax law. Paulos regularly advises on international tax issues that arise with respect to investments in the US by non-US investors (including investors subject to special US tax treatment) as well as investments outside of the US by US persons. He has also developed a strong familiarity with real estate taxation and has been instrumental in assisting clients in planning for the recent changes in the tax code.
Matthew Pearson is in the firm’s intellectual property practice in Philadelphia, where he concentrates on patent litigation cases in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. His experience runs broad and deep, and he works on cases in a range of technologies, including antibody therapies, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, biotechnology and medical devices.
Svetlana Anatolievna Volevich is in the firm’s cross-border practice in Moscow. Volevich is a highly regarded corporate lawyer who concentrates on representing companies on matters involving mergers and acquisitions, litigation, securities regulations, employment and general corporate matters. Her experience covers a broad range of sectors with an emphasis on the telecommunication and oil & gas industries.
