Citywire claims Funds Industry Charity Shield five-a-side football title

Citywire won the fourth “Funds Industry Charity Shield” five-a-side tournament beating IFDS on penalties (5-4) in the final at the London Soccer Dome.

The annual event, which is hosted by Calastone, has seen in excess of GBP35,000 raised for charities in its first three years.

This year all funds raised will go to Children in Crisis, which gives children in some of the world’s poorest and conflict affected countries the education they need to help transform their lives.

Teams from leading fund management and financial services firms have donated money to show support for the initiative. With 26 teams playing in the knockout rounds, there were 195 goals scored in all 86 matches.

Koy Thompson, chief executive of Children in Crisis, says: “We are so grateful to those who have taken part. Children in Crisis works hard to educate children in some of the most remote and war-torn countries. Education has considerable impact on children's futures and the communities in which they live. We know that Calastone's efforts to organise this event and the contribution of all the participating firms will have a great impact and change the lives of children.”

Dan Llewellyn, managing director of UK sales at Calastone, says: “This year we have seen so many teams join in and play, bringing the funds industry together to raise money for charity. We hope that the money we have raised today will help Children in Crisis to continue to do a great job helping children in remote and often very dangerous parts of the world. We’re glad the event brought us all together to have a great time too."
