Johan Terblanche has joined global law firm Dechert as a partner in the financial services group. Terblanche, who was most recently a partner at Loyens & Loeff, will be resident in the firm’s Luxembourg office.
“Our Luxembourg office has doubled its business over the last four years,” says Peter Astleford, global co-chair of Dechert’s financial services group. “The arrival of Johan will help continue this trend and will herald an additional focus on US and UK promoters wishing to utilise Luxembourg as a private funds base.”
"Johan is a great addition and with his deep experience on both Luxembourg and offshore investment funds fits extremely well into our talented team of lawyers in Luxembourg. We all very much look forward to working with Johan and to continue growing our presence in Luxembourg to service both our local and international client base,” says Marc Seimetz, managing partner of the Luxembourg office.
Terblanche focuses his practice on advising managers and investment funds, particularly alternative funds. He is an active member of the Association for Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) and the Luxembourg Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (LPEA). He is qualified in South Africa, England and the British Virgin Islands and was admitted to the Luxembourg bar in 2008.
"I am delighted to be able to add my energy and experience to this exceptional group of lawyers,” Terblanche says. “Dechert's fund group is a team without match and the only funds group to span all of the key onshore jurisdictions."
Dechert’s Luxembourg office, which opened in 2001, is widely recognised by market sources for its expert service provision in the investment funds, banking and finance, and corporate and M&A categories.
With more than 180 financial services lawyers working in the world’s key global financial services centres, Dechert is consistently recognised as a leading law firm for investment funds by prominent US, European and Asian publications, including Chambers, The Legal 500, PLC, Who’s Who Legal and Best Lawyers.
