Jay Gould and Michael Wu join Winston & Strawn’s San Francisco office

Jay Gould and Michael Wu have joined Winston & Strawn’s San Francisco office as partners. Gould will co-chair Winston’s Financial Services and Investment Management practice. 

They joined Winston with an integrated team of partners from another AmLaw 100 law firm. Their practices will provide enhanced and expanded services to investment funds, investment advisers, and other regulated financial market participants.

Gould counsels clients involved in all aspects of the financial services industry, including registered investment companies, hedge funds, offshore investment companies, investment advisers, and broker-dealers. He previously served as chief counsel for E*TRADE Global Asset Management, Inc., vice president with TransAmerica Life Companies, senior counsel to Bank of America NT&SA, and as an attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and several international law firms. Gould received his BA from the University of Washington in 1983 and he received his JD from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in 1983.

Wu’s practice focuses on the area of investment management regulation. He represents investment advisers, broker dealers, and sponsors of investment funds, including private equity funds, real estate funds, hedge funds, commodity funds, funds of funds, venture capital funds, and registered funds. Additionally, Wu assists fund managers on partnership agreements, side letters, separate accounts, and co-investment vehicles. He also counsels clients on regulatory and tax issues affecting offshore funds in many of the most common offshore jurisdictions for investment funds. Wu received his BA from University of California, Santa Barbara in 1998 and his JD from University of Minnesota Law School, cum laude, in 2001 where he was the Articles Editor for the Minnesota Intellectual Property Review.
