Alter Domus, a provider of fund and corporate services for alternative investment funds and multinational corporations, has been authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) to act as a depositary.

Alter Domus has been issued with a Category 4b Investment Services Licence to act as a custodian in relation to the type of AIFs indicate in SLC1.03 of Part B IV of the Investment Services Rules for Investment Services Providers.

Alter Domus has launched a depositary service to support the alternative investments industry in meeting the new requirement for funds captured under the AIFM Directive to appoint an independent depositary.

Laurent Vanderweyen, CEO, says: “Having been the first firm approved by the CSSF to provide depositary services in Luxembourg and also been approved by the FCA in the UK we are delighted to launch our depositary services in Malta. We have recently made significant investment in the growth of our Malta office and this approval allows us to provide a complete solution to private equity and real estate firms globally, including enabling us to start onboarding those clients that will now appoint us as their depositary in Malta”.

Alter Domus will provide full depositary services to private equity and real estate clients, including those investing in infrastructure and debt. The role of a depositary compliant with the AIFMD requirements can be summarised in three main duties: safekeeping of assets, cash flow monitoring and other oversight duties such as overseeing fund compliance and transactions with investors.

Fabrice Buchheit, Head of Depositary Services, adds: “Alter Domus can, through the provision of both administration and depositary services, provide a more fluid and integrated approach from a team with many years experience in alternative asset classes. We are able to provide a flexible and attractive vertically integrated solution to our clients and in line with regulatory developments, we will continue to evolve and adapt our service offering as we aim to continue the success of Malta as a favourable jurisdiction for alternative asset fund managers.”

Alter Domus now offers depositary services in Malta, UK, Luxembourg and Guernsey.
