Dynasty Financial Partners has appointed Scott D Welch as Chief Investment Officer.

Welch will join Dynasty's Investment Committee and will report to Todd Thomson, Chairman of Dynasty and Head of the firm's Investment Committee. He will work in partnership with Michael Moriarty, Director of Investment Platforms, and Tom Petrone, Director of Capital Markets.

"We are excited to have one of the leading investment professionals in the independent advisory industry join Dynasty," says Thomson. "As Chief Investment Officer, Scott's expertise and track record in research and investments will add significant leadership and capability to our investment team. Scott has a deep understanding of the investment needs for independent advisors and their clients and he will be a key player as we continue to innovate and grow our investment platform."

In the last four years, Dynasty has created a remarkable investment platform and one of the fastest growing TAMPs in the industry with capabilities ranging from OCIO services, feeder funds into leading hedge funds and private equity, access to dozens of research resources and state of the art rebalancing tools for advisors who manage their own portfolios.

Shirl Penney, CEO of Dynasty, says: "We've been impressed with Scott and his work in the industry for years and always felt he would be a great fit with the Dynasty Network both professionally and personally. It is great to have him on the team."

Welch's responsibilities will include developing original investment research, identifying and selecting research partners and selecting differentiated portfolio managers. In addition, he will work closely with firms in the Dynasty Network to optimise their investment solutions and customise investment solutions for large client opportunities. He will also write a number of proprietary view pieces on behalf of Dynasty for the use by advisors in Dynasty's Network.

According to Welch: "I have watched with great interest as Dynasty's Network model continues to capture the imagination of both already-independent firms and break-away teams looking for a partner to provide them with scalability and enhanced capabilities. Dynasty is truly a pioneer in the independent investment advisory industry and I am enthusiastic about the vision and the opportunity to work with Todd, Shirl, Ed, Mike, Tom and the Dynasty Investment team to deliver extraordinary investment capabilities to the leading RIA Network in the industry."

Welch joins Dynasty from a wealth management consulting firm, UnconstrainedThought, which he founded in 2014. Prior to that, Welch was a co-founder of Fortigent LLC where he worked as an Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer from 1998-2014. At Fortigent, Welch oversaw the firm's investment and research capabilities. He also managed Fortigent's fifteen research professionals. Prior to joining Fortigent in 1998, he spent over twelve years on Wall Street, first at Swiss Bank Corporation and then at The Globecon Group, where he focused on capital markets, risk management, and relationship management.

Welch is a Member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of The Journal of Wealth Management and the IMCA Investments & Wealth Monitor. He is also a Member of the Advisory Board of the American Bankers Association's annual Wealth Management & Trust Conference. Welch is a frequent speaker on wealth management topics, and he regularly authors industry-related articles that appear in numerous trade journals.

He holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst designation, the Investment Strategist and Alternative Investments Certificates from IMCA, and the FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 licenses. Welch earned an MBA (Finance) from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a BS degree in Mathematics from the University of California at Irvine.
