Copia Capital Management, the Discretionary Fund Manager part of the Novia group, has made a new addition to the firm’s investment and marketing team.

Reporting to Head of Investment Dr Evrin Erdem, Hoshang Daroga joins Copia as Quantitative Investment Manager. He will be responsible for quantitative modelling and investment research, as well as being a key contact point for all Copia stakeholders.

Hoshang holds a Master’s in Financial Engineering from UCLA School of Management in Los Angeles, and an MBA from Fordham University in New York. His last position was with LSV Asset Management in Chicago, and before that with MLV & Co in New York, working in quantitative equity research. Previously to that he was a Senior Trader for TransMarket group in Mumbai.

Copia, which offers ten model portfolios run by a quantitative strategy to advisers on the Novia platform, has an AUM figure of GBP38 million. Results for Quarter 1 show an outperformance of all the risk rated models against their relevant IM benchmarks since inception, with the most popular model (Model 4) outperforming the comparable IM sector average by 4 per cent since launch (end October 2013).

Erdem says: “Copia has a fantastic first year track record and with rising adviser interest in the proposition we are delighted to be expanding our investment team. The quantitative investment approach which brings to the retail investor what was largely only the preserve of the institutional and hedge fund investors, is really gaining traction in the market.  We are thrilled to welcome Hoshang to the team.”

Daroga says: “I am very excited to be taking up this new role at Copia, my experience in investment modelling and strategic analysis will help to enhance what is already very successful investment strategy. Copia’s unique position in the market offering low cost, diversified, multi asset risk rated models for the retail investor makes it a very attractive proposition for advisers and their clients.  I am excited to be part of such a forward looking and expanding proposition”.
