Nuveen Investments has hired Derek Sasveld as Managing Director, Head of Multi-Asset Class Solutions.

In this new role and reporting to Margo Cook, Nuveen Investments’ Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Strategy & Multi-Asset Class Solutions, Sasveld will lead Nuveen’s newly formalised Multi-Asset Class Solutions business platform.

Building upon Nuveen’s existing efforts in Results-Driven Investing and drawing upon the deep expertise of Nuveen Investments’ affiliates and product development teams, Sasveld will be charged with developing a robust program of outcome-oriented investment solutions for retail investors. This program will include portfolio allocation models, a customisable advisory support platform for financial advisors, and in time, distinct open and closed-end fund strategies.

“We are very pleased to welcome Derek to Nuveen and look forward to the many contributions that he will make as we enhance the work we have done in providing advisors and investors with outcome-oriented solutions,” notes Cook. “As more advisors seek to offer investment strategies and products that achieve specific goals, particularly income and principal-stability goals sought by retirees and near-retirees, we are excited about the opportunities Derek can help bring to our clients.”

Sasveld brings to the firm more than 20 years of investment management experience in designing and managing solutions-oriented portfolios with both liquid and illiquid alternative assets on behalf of institutional and retail investors, with an emphasis on strategic and tactical asset allocation. Sasveld joins Nuveen from Voya Investment Management (formerly ING) in New York, where he led the asset allocation team and was responsible for managing USD30 billion of multi-asset strategies. Prior to his time at Voya, he was a Partner with Strategic Investment Group, an Outsourced CIO provider, and a Managing Director and Senior Asset Allocation Strategist at UBS Global Asset Management (formerly Brinson Partners). He received his MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
