CRT Capital expands trading and research platform

CRT Capital Group (CRT), an independent institutional broker-dealer, has expanded its institutional sales, trading and research platform with the hiring of six new senior research analysts. 

These hires follow CRT’s April 2015 acquisition of the Institutional Equities business of Sterne Agee Group, Inc., which is now branded as Sterne Agee CRT, and strengthens the organisation’s role as a leading provider of alpha-generating research for its institutional client base.

Joining CRT Sterne Agee’s highly-regarded Research Group as Managing Directors are Robert Cihra, Douglas Freedman, Vinay Misquith, April Scee, Peter Winter and Brett Levy.

Robert Cihra joins the firm’s Technology sector research and will focus his efforts on mobile computing and hardware. Prior to joining the company, Cihra spent four years at Evercore ISI as a Senior Managing Director and Research Analyst covering IT Hardware. Prior to this, Cihra served as a senior analyst with Caris & Co., Brompton Cross Capital Advisors, Fulcrum Global Partners and ABN Amro. Prior to his career as a Research Analyst, Cihra worked for Globe-Tek Systems as the Director of Operations and began his career working in the software industry. Cihra received his MBA and BA in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Douglas Freedman joins the firm’s Technology sector research covering semiconductors. Freedman joins the company from RBC Capital Markets where he spent four years as a Managing Director and senior analyst in their semiconductor sector. Prior to RBC, Doug was also a senior analyst at Gleacher & Co, Broadpoint, and American Technology Research. Doug started his career in industry, at National Semiconductor and Linear Technology Corp and brings more than 10 years of direct semiconductor industry experience to his research practice. Doug has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Vinay Misquith joins the firm’s Financial Services sector research, with coverage focusing on Property and Casualty Insurance companies. Misquith joins the company from Evercore Partners where he spent four years as a lead Analyst in the P&C insurance industry, chairing several panels at leading industry conferences on specialty / commercial line insurers. Prior to working at Evercore, Misquith spent more than 10 years as a Senior Equity Analyst with Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley. He received his MBA from New York University and Chartered Accountancy in India.

April Scee joins the firm’s Consumer sector research, covering the Consumer Packaged Goods industry. Scee joins the company from BTIG where she was most recently a Managing Director and Head of the Consumer Sector within Equity Research. Prior to joining BTIG, Scee spent seven years on the buy-side after working at Banc of America Securities for nearly eight years covering the consumer sector. While at Banc of America Securities, she was named an Institutional Investor’s “Best Up & Comer” in 2005. She was also ranked second for both the Forbes-Zacks “Best Brokerage Analyst” award for stock picking and earnings estimates, and in the Financial Times-StarMine “World’s Top Analysts” for earnings accuracy in 2007. Scee is a graduate of Duke University and NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Peter Winter joins the firm’s Financial Services sector research, covering the Bank industry. Prior to joining the company, Winter spent the past 10 years at BMO Capital Markets as a Senior Analyst covering regional and small/mid cap banks. Prior to his tenure with BMO, Winter worked in various equity research positions at Advest, CIBC, NatWest Markets and Paine Webber Inc. He was ranked fifth in The Wall Street Journal’s 2001 Best on the Street analyst survey for earnings accuracy among analysts covering banks and savings and loans. In 2002 he received a five-star ranking from Zacks for stock-picking. Winter is a graduate of Syracuse University

Brett Levy joins the firm as a Senior Credit Analyst, providing full-capital structure coverage of the metals and mining sector. Levy is well-known as a thought leader in metals and mining, having been ranked in Institutional Investor’s Annual Fixed Income Research poll for 15 years, including each of the last 12 years. He joins the firm after 11 years at Jefferies where he was instrumental in building a successful metals and mining practice. Prior to Jefferies, Levy worked at RBC Capital Markets, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Bankers Trust/Alex Brown. Levy is a graduate of Boston University and MIT.
