100 Women in Hedge Funds (100WHF) successfully raised over GBP550,000 at its annual London Gala in aid of The Art Room, a charity that provides art as therapy to increase children's self-esteem, self-confidence and independence.
The 100WHF London Gala was held last night (27 October) at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, with the support of more than 250 leaders from the alternative investment industry. Elizabeth Corley, CBE, CEO of Allianz Global Investors, received 100 Women in Hedge Funds’ 2015 European Industry Leadership Award in recognition of her example and advocacy of mentorship for future leaders of the industry.
The guest of honour was Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Royal Patron of The Art Room and of 100WHF’s philanthropic initiatives. 100WHF’s partnership with The Charities Forum of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry focuses on a selected charity each year and reflects 100WHF’s three philanthropic themes of: mentoring, women’s and family health, and education. This year’s 100WHF global theme is education.
Since 2010, Blaine and Laura Tomlinson have served as 100WHF’s Patronage Sponsor, very generously supporting each of the charities selected as beneficiaries of 100WHF’s London Gala and other fundraising.
“100 Women in Hedge Funds is thrilled to celebrate with The Art Room their successful programs, which provide a calm and positive environment for children to exercise their creativity through diverse artistic media,” says Kathryn Graham (pictured), Head of Strategy Coordination at Universities Superannuation Scheme, and Chair of the London Board of 100 Women in Hedge Funds. “Thanks to the social aspect of sharing their projects, students develop self-confidence and are seen as purposeful contributors to their school’s community.”
The Art Room’s Founder Director, Juli Beattie says: “We are enormously grateful to 100WHF for choosing The Art Room and engaging with us so generously in the past year to raise much needed funds for the charity. Money raised by the Gala will go directly to The Art Room at Northolt High School and will allow us to open for more days and many more sessions; giving children in one of the most deprived areas of the London Borough of Ealing, the chance to benefit from our unique methodology.
