Maples Group reveals new management team

Following a very successful six year tenure as global head of Maples and Calder, Henry Smith stepped down from the role on 30 November 2015 with Alasdair Robertson succeeding him as Global Managing Partner, with immediate effect.

In addition to his new role, Robertson will continue to serve as MaplesFS Chairman. Scott Somerville retains the role of Chief Executive Officer of MaplesFS.
 
"It has been a great honour and a privilege to be the Global Managing Partner of Maples and Calder for the past six years. I am happy to say the firm has experienced impressive growth and success during that time, which is an enormous credit to all the very talented lawyers, professionals and staff in the firm and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work, dedication and support," says Smith.  "I extend my warmest congratulations to Alasdair on his appointment. He has done a terrific job in various roles within the firm and I am sure that the firm will continue to excel and reach new heights under Alasdair's stewardship."
 
Robertson says: "Henry has done a tremendous job as our Global Managing Partner over the last six years and having had the privilege of serving on the global management committee with him for the last four years, I am honoured to have been asked to step into his shoes. I look forward to the challenge, safe in the knowledge that we continue to have a very strong management team to serve the Maples group."
 
Nicholas Butcher succeeds current Dublin office Managing Partner, Andrew Doyle, who is retiring from the position following the completion of four terms in the role. Richard May takes up the post of BVI Managing Partner, as Arabella di Iorio, having served for six years, steps down from the position to focus fully on expanding the BVI Litigation practice, as Head of BVI Litigation.
 
Paul Lumsden (Cayman Islands), Tahir Jawed (Dubai), Shaun Denton and Mark Western (Hong Kong), Paul Govier (London) and Michael Gagie (Singapore) remain in their existing roles as office Managing Partners and Michael Gagie continues as Head of the firm's BVI law practice globally.
 
Other election results include Edward Miller (Corporate), Jon Fowler (Funds) and Aristos Galatopoulos (Litigation), each of whom were re-elected, and Mark Matthews (Finance) replaced Alasdair Robertson as Global Practice Group Leaders for the firm's major practice groups.
 
The Maples group continues to offer legal, corporate, fiduciary, fund and private client services across its various offices around the world.
