K&L Gates adds new partner to investment management practice

Related Topics

Global law firm K&L Gates has continued to bolster its investment management, hedge funds and alternative investment practice with the addition of Derek Steingarten (pictured) as a partner in the firm’s New York office.

Steingarten, who joins K&L Gates from Goodwin Procter LLP, is the office’s third new partner in the investment management area in the last six months.

Steingarten brings 15 years of focused experience representing investment advisory firms and fund sponsors across a broad spectrum of formation, regulatory, and transactional matters. His client base spans seasoned and startup investment managers, hedge funds, funds-of-funds, and open- and closed-end mutual funds, and also includes the representation of fund directors. Steingarten’s work for clients also involves restructurings and other strategic transactions, such as lift-outs and joint ventures.

“We continue to build a well-rounded investment management team in New York that mirrors the firm’s global capabilities,” says John A Bicks, administrative partner of K&L Gates’ New York office. “Derek’s broad funds experience, encompassing both registered and private funds, bolsters New York’s offering to investment management clients while also adding to the firm’s greater Cross-Border Canada practice.”

Steingarten is the eighth new partner or of counsel addition to K&L Gates’ industry-leading investment management, hedge funds and alternative investments practice in the past year, following the 2015 arrivals of fellow New York partners Bruce MacLennan and Edward Dartley along with lawyers in the firm’s Boston, London, and Hong Kong offices as well as the addition of Washington, DC, partner Todd Betke in late December.
