Industry veteran Tom O’Mara (pictured) has joined the Advisory Board of electronic trading network AX Trading.

O’Mara brings a breadth and depth of experience and expertise to AX. He began his career trading Convertible Securities at Lehman Brothers from 1986-1991, where he was part of the team that transformed its retail-based distribution desk into an institutional market maker and underwriter.

In 1991, O’Mara joined Credit Suisse First Boston and was a pivotal team member in the rebuilding of First Boston's convertible franchise. As part of the successful Equity Derivatives and Convertible Securities Unit's management team, O’Mara’s responsibilities grew from managing a US single asset to a global multi-asset platform.

During this tenure, O’Mara was Vice-Chairman responsible for risk within Marshall Capital, an investment vehicle that specialised in private placement convertible securities. Finally, due to his experience and ability to manage risk through the extreme market moves and cycles from 1986 – 2003, O’Mara was asked to be Chief Risk Officer of the Equity Division. He was a member of the Global Equity Operating Committee representing Convertibles within Equity Management and then became a member of the Global Equity Management Committee responsible for all Equity Trading globally.

In 2010, O’Mara joined Cowen and Company and is currently a Senior Advisor to the firm. He holds a BS in Business Administration from Villanova University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Said Tom O’Mara: “The basis of all innovation on Wall Street has and will continue to be an idea.  AX is among the most innovative group of people who have thought through what the buy side really needs and has responded. I look forward to being part of their idea generation and delivery of new models across instruments worldwide.”

Said George O’Krepkie, CEO of AX Trading LLC: “AX is committed to providing all market players in all instruments worldwide with trading mechanisms designed to benefit them. The ideas we deliver will result in a true alternative in market structure. Tom’s willingness to join with us is confirmation of our vision, and his insight and guidance will prove invaluable to our firm, its investors, and our clients.”
