Inaugural CAIA information session to focus on ‘Understanding Alternative Investments’

Related Topics

The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association is to organise an interactive session to present a deeper understanding of the alternative investments industry. The first-of-its-kind event will be held in Mumbai on 16 March, 2016, commencing at 11 AM, followed by a networking lunch.

Alternative investments, which have been used by large institutions, endowments and private investors for quite some time, have become mainstream in the recent years. Alternative investments utilise a different approach to investments compared to traditional equity or fixed income investments.

Such investments have the potential to enhance the risk and/or return characteristics of an investment portfolio. As sophisticated solutions replace more traditional products, the bar for knowledge and education continues to be raised.

This event will feature prominent industry experts, who will explore routes to alternative investment, share an overview of the global landscape and local India sector, as well as discuss the regulatory framework post SEBI's AIF introduction and appetite evolution in India. Speakers at the event include: William J Kelly – CEO of the CAIA Association; Peter Douglas, Principal – CAIA, Singapore; Alexander M Ineichen – on the Board of Directors of the CAIA Association; and Jo Murphy, Managing Director – Head of Asia Pacific, CAIA Association.

The event will also explore the use of 'Nowcasting,' a contraction of 'now' and 'forecasting', which refers to monitoring the state of the economy in real time. Speakers will discuss the need and importance of nowcasting – its price, economics and earnings and how investors can use it.
All attendees will be extended a complimentary access to take CAIA's Fundamentals of Alternative Investments (FAI) Certificate Programme. This is an online course, which provides a foundation of core concepts in the sector. The 20-hour, self-paced course is taught by some of the world's leading experts in the field. Upon completion, one is equipped with a working knowledge of alternative investments and extended a certificate of completion.
