100 Women in Hedge Funds (100WHF) has selected The Women’s Foundation (TWF) as its 2016 philanthropic beneficiary in Hong Kong.

100WHF is a global, practitioner-driven non-profit organisation which serves more than 13,000 alternative investment management investors and professionals through educational, professional leverage and philanthropic initiatives. To date, 100WHF has raised US$38 million (gross) for charitable causes.

100WHF’s mission was established in 2001 on three core pillars: Education, Peer Leverage and Philanthropy. 100WHF's philanthropic mission is to leverage its members’ collective abilities and expertise in order to give back to the global community among three annually rotating themes: Education, Mentoring, as well as Women’s and Family Health. This year’s global theme is Mentoring.

Established in 2004, TWF is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong through ground-breaking research, innovative and impactful community programs, as well as education and advocacy. TWF’s three key focus areas are challenging gender stereotypes, increasing the number of women in policy and decision-making roles, and empowering women in poverty to achieve a better quality of life for themselves and their families. Mentoring has been an integral component across TWF’s programs and initiatives. TWF's signature mentoring program for women leaders is now in its seventh year and every year, facilitates and supports around a hundred professional women in rewarding mentoring relationships.

100WHF’s CEO Amanda Pullinger, says: “The Women’s Foundation is an ideal beneficiary for us.  We were attracted to TWF’s long track record in developing and running mentoring programs for women leaders in Hong Kong, as well as to their TEEN and other grassroots programs for training older youths to mentor younger teens from low-income families.

“Importantly, as 100WHF has prioritized supporting the career development of our younger members – the next generation – we look to mentoring experts such as The Women’s Foundation for inspiration and best practices.”

Su-Mei Thompson, CEO of TWF, says: “We are delighted to have been chosen by 100 Women in Hedge Funds as their charity beneficiary for 2016. From our work, we know that women do much better with the support of others than on their own. We also know that mentoring is a vital enabler for organisations and industries looking to achieve greater female representation particularly in senior roles. With 100WHF's support, we are excited about being able to touch the lives of more women and girls in Hong Kong by enhancing the scope and reach of our initiatives, both at a school level and also in the workplace.”
