Blenheim Capital Management makes partnership appointments

Related Topics

Blenheim Capital Management has appointed four new partners – Thomas Kopczynski, James Wohlmacher, Gus Rossi, and Terence Kooyker.

They join Blenheim’s founder and chairman, Willem Kooyker (pictured), as owners of the firm.

The appointment of these four senior staff members marks the first change in ownership since Blenheim was founded nearly 30 years ago. Kooyker retains a majority interest.

“I am delighted to welcome Tom, Jim, Gus, and Terence as partners,” says Kooyker. “These appointments recognise their long and valuable commitment to Blenheim and the substantial contributions they have made in service to our clients over many years. I have great confidence in their ability to help me make Blenheim a leading alternative investment firm for a new generation of investors. I also know that they measure themselves against the standards of excellence that have always guided the firm.”

The naming of the new partners comes as Blenheim begins to expand its product offerings to address both a growing opportunity set in the commodity markets and the more varied ways in which investors seek to access the firm’s capabilities. It is expected that the partnership group will expand over time.

“My new partners will help me chart a new course for growth in an industry that has changed enormously in recent years. Blenheim was a pioneer in commodity trading and investing and we aim to be among the leading managers in those markets for many years to come. Our partnership highlights the ambition we have for Blenheim going forward and the team approach we bring to bear on the global commodity markets each and every day,” says Kooyker.

Kopczynski, senior managing director and head of commodities trading and research, joined Blenheim in August 1993. He oversees all trading staff and research personnel.

Wohlmacher, senior managing director, chief operating officer, and chief risk officer, joined Blenheim in May 2005 from Hamilton Investment Management, a New York-based multi-strategy hedge fund manager, where he was chief operating officer. Hamilton was originally an affiliate of Commodities Corporation, where he began his work in the hedge fund industry in 1991. Before that, Wohlmacher held various regulatory positions with the New York Stock Exchange, beginning in 1987.

Rossi, senior managing director and chief financial officer, joined Blenheim in April 2006 and is responsible for financial matters at the firm. He came from DPM Mellon, a hedge fund administrator, where he was the controller of financial and taxation reporting. Rossi served earlier as supervisor of the taxation department with Caxton Corporation, a hedge fund manager. He worked previously at RD Hunter, an accounting firm.

Terence Kooyker, senior managing director and senior portfolio manager, joined Blenheim in October 2007 as a research analyst and trader before assuming his current role as a portfolio manager. He began his career in finance at the New York Mercantile Exchange trading natural gas options.
