Convertible arbitrage veteran joins Aegon Asset Management’s fixed income team

Aegon Asset Management US has added veteran portfolio manager Christopher Hartman to the company’s fixed income investment team.

Hartman has 18 years of industry experience, including nine years as a portfolio manager of the Calamos Market Neutral Income Fund. He started at Aegon Asset Management on 19 June, 2017.
 
“We look forward to Chris applying his extensive convertible arbitrage expertise to the development of a market neutral strategy,” says Gary Black (pictured), CEO for Aegon Asset Management US. “Chris has the experience, talent and track record in the alternatives space to develop a differentiated strategy that complements the firm’s robust fixed income offerings.”
 
Aegon Co-Head of Public Fixed Income Jim Schaeffer says: “Adding Chris to the team enhances the firm’s ability to provide clients a broad suite of investment solutions. We look forward to his contributions to the team and the expansion of our alternatives offerings.”
 
Prior to joining Aegon AM, Hartman was senior vice president, co-portfolio manager at Calamos Investments. He served as a senior member of an investment team that managed USD25 billion across several asset classes, investment strategies and risk profiles. At the time of his departure, he was the co-portfolio manager of a fund that had approximately USD4 billion in assets under management.
 
“This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established, well-resourced investment platform,” says Hartman. “I look forward to working with the team and developing new outcome-oriented strategies for Aegon’s clients.”
