Neuberger Berman adds to China equity capabilities with new investment team

Related Topics

Neuberger Berman, a private, independent, employee-owned investment manager, has added to its China equity capabilities with portfolio manager Bin Yu joining the firm.

Yu brings with him a team of four research analysts, all from CloudRidge Capital, an investment management firm he founded in 2014. The team will continue to manage their current strategy as a private fund with offerings to expand based on Neuberger Berman clients’ needs. The team is located in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Yu and team bring strong local expertise and experience in the China equity markets – both with local listed A-shares and Hong Kong listed H-shares – as well as a track record of outperformance. Their long-term, high conviction, value oriented investment approach is grounded in fundamental research and looks to capitalise on sustainable trends.

Prior to CloudRidge, Yu spent more than five years with the China Investment Corporation, where he was head of the USD10 billion global equity team and a senior portfolio manager co-managing three multi-billion portfolios: equity long short, long-only global equity and equity special situations. Prior to that, Bin was with Eagle Capital Management in New York for four years, where he helped manage a USD7 billion long-only US equity portfolio for institutional investors. After attending Peking University, he earned an MA and PhD in Physics from Brandeis University and a Master of Philosophy in Management Science from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

“I’m excited to join Neuberger Berman as Chinese equities become increasingly integrated in global investors’ portfolios,” says Yu. “My team and I have worked to build our institutional investment process and record, and as we approach our three-year anniversary we look forward to joining a firm with the depth and resources of Neuberger Berman.”

Joseph Amato (pictured), President and Chief Investment Officer, Equities, at Neuberger Berman, says: “We are excited about extending our investment capabilities in China – a large and increasingly important equity market. Bin’s long-term, high conviction, value-oriented investment approach is grounded in fundamental research and we expect him to be a great fit in the Neuberger Berman culture.”
