Cohen & Steers launches Global Real Estate Long-Short Offshore fund

New York-based investment manager Cohen & Steers has launched the Global Real Estate Long-Short Offshore fund managed by Todd Voigt, who joined the firm specifically to manage its hedged real estate securities portfolios. Voigt is supported by a team of analysts and traders in New York, London, Brussels and Hong Kong.

MTM Capital Partners, a UK investment manager that invests in the efficient and safe use of resources and the reduction of environment-damaging emissions, is collaborating with the US Environmental Protection Agency to advance coal mine methane recovery and use projects in China, according to MTM chairman Geoffrey Isaac.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Us commodity market regulator, has approved trading for the US market in four Eurex futures products offering exposure to the SLI Swiss Leader Index, the Swiss Market Index Midcap (SMIM), the Dow Jones Euro Stoxx Select Dividend 30 index and the TecDax.

The Irish Stock Exchange has introduced a listing regime for a new category of fund, the Super Sophisticated Investor Fund, as well as amending the existing listing regime for closed-ended funds and removing the requirement for Irish-authorised qualifying investor funds to produce interim reports.
Managed futures suffer setback in July as Barclay CTA Index slides 2.37 per cent

Managed futures, which had posted an average return of 8.88 per cent over the first half of 2008, slipped back 2.37 per cent in July, according to the Barclay CTA Index compiled by Fairfield, Iowa-based index provider BarclayHedge. However, the index remains up 7.58 per cent for the year to date, outpacing most hedge fund strategies and equity markets.

Global investor and philanthropist George Soros is back doing what he does best - making a fortune by exploiting financial turmoil. According to a regulatory filing last week, Soros Fund Management raised its stake in Lehman Brothers from 10,000 shares in March to 9.47 million common shares, representing 1.36 per cent of the total outstanding, at the end of June.

Hedge funds declined 1.99 per cent in July, according to the Barclay Hedge Fund Index compiled by Fairfield, Iowa-based BarclayHedge, and are now down by 4.44 per cent since the beginning of this year. The Barclay Fund of Funds Index lost 2.57 per cent in July.
