Mid Europa Partners has taken further steps toward consolidating the health care market in Poland with the acquisition of outpatient care and diagnostics provider Centrum Medyczne LIM from its founders, while an existing portfolio company, Lux Med, has conditionally agreed to acquire Promedis, which also offers outpatient services to corporate and individual customers, from Polish service sector conglomerate Impel.

Centrum Medyczne LIM is the third largest private health care provider in Poland in revenue terms, serving more than 230,000 corporate and individual patients. The firm has a network of 15 branded clinics in the largest Polish cities and co-operates with more than 300 affiliated private providers.

Promedis is a mid-size player in the country's health care market, serving more than 70,000 corporate and individual patients. It operates a network of 10 clinics located primarily in western and south-western Poland and works with more than 500 affiliated private providers.

'The closing of CM LIM and the simultaneous announcement by Lux Med of the agreement to acquire Promedis represent a further milestone in our year-long process of consolidating the Polish healthcare market,' says Matthew Strassberg, who is responsible for Mid Europa's Polish health care platform.

'These investments will further bolster the platform's ability to offer a full range of outpatient and day-surgery services throughout the country. The platform will operate 57 own-branded and 23 captive clinics, and provide around 930,000 subscribers with access to a network of about 900 affiliated private providers.'

Anna Rulkiewicz, chief executive of Lux Med and Medycyna Rodzinna, adds: 'We look forward to working with the highly professional teams at CM LIM and Promedis to develop a common strategy, based on an integrated product offering supported by investment in new clinics and a common back-office and IT infrastructure.'

Michelle Capiod, Pawel Padusinski and Jan Krzewinski executed the Centrum Medyczne LIM transaction and supported the Lux Med management team in executing the Promedis investment. Mid Europa and Lux Med were advised by Linklaters and PricewaterhouseCoopers

Operating from London, Budapest and Warsaw, Mid Europa Partners advises and manages funds investing in Central and Eastern Europe with committed capital of some USD3bn, and made investments in 20 companies in 14 countries.

In October last year Mid Europa acquired Lux Med, and Medycyna Rodzinna, respectively the second and sixth largest private health care providers in Poland. Lux Med offers outpatient medical care and diagnostic services to more than 280,000 subscribers through a network of 15 clinics and co-operates with more than 650 affiliated private providers throughout the country. Medycyna Rodzinna serves 350,000 patients through 17 clinics and has an significant presence in the diagnostic services business through AVI.
